Grad Schools
I’ve been doing my research on grad schools. Here is what I have learned:
- I will need a loan.
- Texas is not an option.
- I will probably major in screenwriting (more likely for TV than Film or Theatre.
- Leaning more towards the east coast then the west coast for a reason.
- Not matter what grad school I go to, it will be cheaper than my current school.
- WHAT THE FUCK?? WHY IS PUC SO EXSPENSIVE
- For my portfolio, I need a pilot or a screenplay. (With the exception of VFS, where I just need a pitch for either/or)
So my top choices right now are NYU, USC, or VFS ( Vancouver Film School). I can’t believe, I am actually considering Canada. Edgar in the Great American North. Hmmmm.
The Year 2012
Way to late for a New Year’s Resolution. Way to early to throw in the towel though. I have decided that it is time to take what I do seriously. Are you really a writer? Are you really a director? If yes, what do you have to show for it? Currently? I have a feature script and a pilot script under my hands. Both of them significantly.
I feel like if I tie in a Tumblr posting to my assignment list, I will be forced to work on them so that I keep up with the projects. ( I already see the holes in that theory) So, I am also going to look into getting some sort of tattoo to remind me that I need to keep moving forward.
Jo told me that 2012 was going to be my year and I haven’t been acting like it. It’s time to do big things already. I am getting old…..according to the state of Texas.
Questions I expect to be answered tomorrow
How well do my actors know the script?
How content am I with their interpretation of the character?
How much of their interpretation would I like to keep?
How large of a commitment are some of my actors making?
Directing actors is hard. That is all I learned from my table read. It’s a lot like leading someone who is blindfolded while you have just had your eyes gouged out. Sorry for the fear: my first shoot is tomorrow. I am freaking out hard core…and it’s a pretty simple scene. Well….let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Viva La Safehouse
4th draft in the bag. FINALLY! I feel great about it. I finally feel that I have the story in tact. Now with the story in the bag, it’s time to look at the other side of things: style and execution.
My story isn’t some brilliant, new plot that will cause such shock and awe that everyone will…

goooooooooooooooooooo!:)
Might as well!!!!
This Thanksgiving break has been the accumulation of two things: watching The Wire and rewriting Safehouse. I have come across some things:
- I need to stop sending out my script to everyone with a mouth and a mother. Just because you can read, doesn’t mean you can give good notes. Plus,…
What a nut job…..am I right?
I randomly found this web series called It Gets Betterish. I watched the first episode, it was kinda funny. It has comedian Brent Sullivan in it (Live at Gotham,2009). Check it out?
Is it horrible to say that I feel like I’ve been slacking off….on Tumblr posts?
I just took a moment to check through my new Tumblr follower (prideandparadox), yet old friend’s tumblr and my gawd, it’s a good Tumblr. It has it’s reblogs but the original posts are amazing. I feel like I’ve been slacking off, so I am going to try and get back into it. No promises though. I might find something new to obsess over.
A Lament of A Greendale Student
I’ve never seen a show get cancelled. In fact, all of my favorite shows were cancelled long before I found them (Family Guy [when it was good], Arrested Development, Standoff [don’t judge me], Studio 60 on Sunset Strip). So, this Community thing is hitting me hard.
I understand that the whole predicament is superficial, but this is my blog so FUCK YOU! My reasons for being distraught over the cancellation(or looming cancellation to be correct) of Community are both selfish and fan-based.
I’ve been having this vision of trying to get on to Community as a writer’s assistant or assistant’s assistant by basically being annoying as shit through Twitter. I’ve been tweeting at every writer I can: thanking them/comending them from episodes, replying to their personal tweets. and favoriting everything Dan Harmon tweets. My goal is far from reached, but if the season ends at the end of this summer, then I fail…
Second, the show is amazing. I understand that a lot of people don’t watch it and that’s what I love about it. It has a cult following which is a mark of almost all of my favorite things: music and books included. The small audience of Community is made up of geeks who are dedicated to the show. NBC, could you really disenfranchise all of those geeks for a show about Will Arnett having a baby?
How I see it, Community sucks in the ratings because of its intelligence. When someone turns on their TV after a long day of work, they aren’t trying to sift through meta humor and pop culture references. They want quick humor and fart jokes (which is why My Name is Earl lasted longer than a season). We, intelligent folk, don’t ask for much. You took away Arrested Development and you dumbed down Family Guy, can’t you at least leave us with Community (P.S. we haven’t forgotten about Firefly, bitches!)
